About DIVD
DIVD is the voluntary fire brigade of the Internet. At the Dutch Institute for Vulnerability Disclosure we aim to make the digital world safer by reporting vulnerabilities we find in digital systems to the people who can fix them. We operate on a global level, but do it Dutch style: open, honest, collaborative, and for free. We mainly work on cases with the volunteers in CSIRT and Research teams. And to support all these volunteers, many great people are in supporting roles.
DIVD wants to be an open and inviting organization for everyone. We believe it is essential that everyone can join us and feel welcome and safe, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religious beliefs, or political preference. If you are already part of the hacker community, you may know neurodiversity is included in the package.
Departement
The communications department handles internal and external communications, events, and merchandise. It showcases DIVD's work both nationally and internationally through blogs on our website, press releases to relevant media, and posts on social media channels. This department ensures our experts are visible at key cybersecurity and hacker events. The team currently has four members: two developers who maintain the website, one communications specialist who focuses on internal communications and the head of communications who is responsible for the team, strategy and external communications.
This is what you’re going to do
As part of our communications team, you’ll be working with one of the most enthusiastic and high-energy teams of DIVD.. Through our enthusiasm, communications, and events, we have a big impact on the rest of the organization. We love geeky and nerdy stuff, we know how to get people excited, and whenever possible, you’ll find us at every party, event, or conference — not because we have to, but because we love being out there.
It would be great if you could help out with:
Creating content for social media (writing posts and, if possible, designing visuals using templates)
Helping organize our events, such as the annual partner event and DIVD parties
Writing articles about our research, our work, and trends in the cybersecurity field
You support our researchers with communication challenges and come up with ways to assist them
Creating memes
Must haves
You share DIVD’s mission and vision and would like to be part of our efforts
You have a feeling for, or experience in, communications or marketing
You know how to translate the language of the homo cyberneticus to the homo ordinarius (non-hackers)
You’re able to communicate in English — bonus points if you speak Dutch as well
Nice to haves
You’ve heard about Figma and love working with it
You’re familiar with GitHub, in fact, you even use it for your grocery lists
If you have any video creating skills, that would be awesome!
This is why you want to join us
By joining us, you'll be key to improving global cybersecurity while learning and growing with a passionate team. You can expand your knowledge in different fields of cybersecurity. You will find yourself strengthened by a growing community of helpful hackers who like to deep dive into technical challenges, learn from each other, and maybe join our (geeky) meetups now and then.
Volunteer work, but no less important
We need volunteers who can commit to a set number of hours. Even though this is volunteer work, it still requires dedication and responsibility. We invest a lot of time in you as a new volunteer, so we take the onboarding process quite seriously. That's why a screening for a Certificate of Conduct (in Dutch: VOG) is part of the process.
